Welcome to The Ephemerist Winter 2022 issue Nº 199. To welcome in the new year in 1899 Angus Thomas published a greetings card depicting a joint of meat and a wheel with the exhortation to ‘put your shoulder to the wheel’. Over one hundred years later, general consensus as to what constitutes humour or good taste has changed, says Amoret Tanner, in her discussion of the undoubted popularity of such cards. In a season of lists, this journal adds another: a somewhat tongue-in-cheek list of possible motivations for collect-ing ephemera set out in Robin Hunt’s previously unpublished piece, and unearthed by Richard Hunt, months after his father’s extensive collection was sold at auction. Whatever our motivations and preconceptions, a happy year for all ephemera collectors and observers awaits in 2023. The Editor
